FAQ

Why did you create Altruous?

We believe the social and environmental challenges facing the world today are important and urgent, and progress has just been too slow. We believe the social good programs and organizations working on the front lines to solve these challenges have too many unjust obstacles in their way, and it's too difficult for impact-minded funders to identify and research the most impactful funding opportunities in their chosen cause areas. Altruous is our effort to change all that, and bring unprecedented transparency, efficiency, and effectiveness to the impact space.

What makes Altruous unique?

Everything we do is designed to add clarity, drive efficiency and effectiveness, and take a no-nonsense approach to evaluation and funding. We're the only platform that focuses on depth and quality of impact, as it matches your own philanthropic approaches and interests, rather than just cost-per-outcome. Want to learn more? How does Altruous measure and evaluate impact?

We have a robust, multi-faceted approach to impact evaluation. We focus on the depth and quality of impact, strength of program teams, and alignment with the needs of the communities served by a program.

We're always learning and engaging with experts from across various cause sectors and evaluation approaches. Our research contextualizes the unique circumstances of the ecosystems and communities within which a program operates.

How are evaluations conducted?

Altruous's impact reports are as independent and objective as we can make them. We combine verifiable 3rd party data with information provided by the organizations themselves. Our team of industry experts analyzes the data, asks probing questions, and leverages proprietary AI tools to inform our findings, and subjects our work to peer review by of independent learning and evaluation professionals.

How often are impact reports updated?

As often as possible. The need to update reports varies greatly across programs. However, Altruous includes a dynamic Confidence Score that measures how sure we are about our findings. How recently an evaluation is updated factors heavily into that confidence score.

How much does Altruous cost?

In order to avoid conflicts of interest, Altruous is and will always be free to the organizations whose programs we evaluate.

For funders, our pricing is tied to their annual philanthropic spend, and to the unique mix of features they need. For more information check out our pricing page, or schedule some time with someone from our team. We're always happy to talk shop!
